Michael Fields, owner and managing director at The James Group, is a people person at heart. He’s always eager to make an acquaintance and share a laugh. “He’s a small-town boy with huge determination and a heart of gold,” says his best friend of thirty years, Tricia.
Originally from a quiet town outside of Chicago, as a twenty-something Mike headed west to San Francisco to create for himself what would become a successful sales career spanning two decades. But after 20 years in one of the world’s most expensive cities, Mike’s interest drew toward real estate in international real estate markets with huge potential for growth.
After a quick trip to check out the buzz around Ambergris Caye, Belize circa 2016, Mike sold everything and headed south in search of a simpler life with more opportunity and a return to the sense of community that he enjoyed as a Midwestern boy.
Here’s Mike’s shortlist on why he chose Belize as his promising new home.
Mike Fields has been fortunate to travel to many places in his lifetime, but Belize holds a very special place in his heart. “I love Belize for so many reasons, but above all else, because it’s where I met my wife!” exclaims Mike of his bride, Tanya McNab-Fields, of the family publishing and design business, McNab Visual Strategies, in Belize City. The two were married in 2019 at a large ceremony on the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize.
Q. But what about island fever? Don’t you miss the big city life?
A. “I love traveling and meeting new people, forming relationships all over the world. Belize makes the perfect home base for me to discover new cultures in Latin America while keeping up with business and family in the US. Besides, I’m just a small-town boy!” proclaims Mike with a grin.
