Who is The James Group?

The James Group | Exclusive agent for Century 21 Btal is a boutique Belize real estate concierge and buyer’s agent with services tailored to the needs of the international investor. Our main office is located on Ambergris Caye, but we are active in a number of Belize mainland destinations as well.

The James Group was named after owner Mike Fields’ late father, James Fields. James was a kind man of integrity who was very well respected in his Illinois community. As a tribute, we at The James Group pride ourselves on the pillars of trust, transparency, and quality client care every step of the way in the international real estate arena.

Meet Mike Fields

Michael Fields, owner and managing director at The James Group, is a people person at heart. He’s always eager to make an acquaintance and share a laugh. “He’s a small-town boy with huge determination and a heart of gold,” says his best friend of thirty years, Tricia.

Originally from a quiet town outside of Chicago, as a twenty-something Mike headed west to San Francisco to create for himself what would become a successful sales career spanning two decades. But after 20 years in one of the world’s most expensive cities, Mike’s interest drew toward real estate in international real estate markets with huge potential for growth.

After a quick trip to check out the buzz around Ambergris Caye, Belize circa 2016, Mike sold everything and headed south in search of a simpler life with more opportunity and a return to the sense of community that he enjoyed as a Midwestern boy.

Scott Fuson

Scott Fuson was born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he lived, worked, and studied until joining the US Navy in 1990. Scott served aboard the USS Nimitz during Operation Desert Storm earning a Southwest Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star and multiple Letters of Commendation.

Monique Smith

Monique Smith was born in the beautiful country side of mainland Belize and raised between the Caribbean jewel that is Belize and sunny Southern California. After attending college at the University of Belize, Monique moved to Ambergris Caye where she would fall in love with a beautiful community of islanders, start a family and begin her career in real estate

New Roots

Mike Fields has been fortunate to travel to many places in his lifetime, but Belize holds a very special place in his heart. “I love Belize for so many reasons, but above all else, because it’s where I met my wife!” exclaims Mike of his bride, Tanya McNab-Fields, of the family publishing and design business, McNab Visual Strategies, in Belize City. The two were married in 2019 at a large ceremony on the island of Ambergris Caye, Belize.

Q. But what about island fever? Don’t you miss the big city life?

A. “I love traveling and meeting new people, forming relationships all over the world. Belize makes the perfect home base for me to discover new cultures in Latin America while keeping up with business and family in the US. Besides, I’m just a small-town boy!” proclaims Mike with a grin.
